Before I started Jen’s program I had been all over the place. Weight and size have AWAYS been a struggle for me and I have been through a lot of ups and downs. I have always been active, but when I began group fitness, I started to become more comfortable, and even more EXCITED about going to the gym. Jen made her classes fun and unique, so even on a bad day I knew I would get a great workout. Slowly I started to lose weight and feel better.
When I hit a plateau, but still wasn’t were I wanted to be, I signed up for Jen’s nutrition class. I had (for the most part) the exercise down, I just needed help eating right. Following the food plan was amazing. Within the first few HOURS I felt better. I could tell my body was thanking me for eating healthy whole foods on a consistent basis! I have been on “health kicks” before but they never seemed to last. This meal plan was FUN and very flexible though. Much more nutrition focused than other fad diets. Having Jen there for guidance made all the difference too. She was always available for questions and had great advice on meal timing, how to food prep, and even handling social settings (buffets use to be the enemy!) Her support was paramount. Jen made getting into a rhythm and making this food program part of my daily life extremely easy. The best part was learning to listen to my body. Understanding that it was telling me “I need protein” or “I need fruit” was incredible. Only on rare occasions did it say “I need super over processed sweets”… and after growing up in a house were you had cinnamon buns for breakfast, snickers after lunch, and Nana’s famous brownies at dinner, that was different. I crave VEGGIES now, not sugar cookies. The best part was it didn’t take long to see the small changes take effect; and I feel great!
Next I wanted to really challenge myself, so I signed up for a half marathon. I had done a few races and was “a runner” a while back, but I knew I couldn’t do it alone. I needed the guidance and support from someone who had been there. Jen set me up with a training program that took my workouts to the next level. Only months before I was at a consistent 9:45 pace, now I can hit 7:30 minute miles like it’s my job! Where I use to pick up the 8lbs weights, now I reach for the 17.5lbs on a light day. My strength and performance has gone through the roof. I feel leaner and healthier than I ever have before, and it feels natural! I’m not stressing over calories, I don’t feel tired or fatigued from over training. There is no mental struggle or yo-yoing about food and exercise, so there is no physical up or down with weight and performance. I feel very stable and steady. Plus, I still have a life!
Jen has provided me a balance and a lifestyle that is now engrained in me… and if I feel I’m starting to lose that equilibrium, I know a good check-in will get me back on track!
